I found a Kingston kns1650r sitting at the side of the road (Bloor St.) today. I have no need for it (I only use gigabit networking these days) but it seems like a waste to throw it away. I've not tested this. It might have capacitor rot, for example. It is configurable, but with a hard to find old Windows program (circa 2000). But I don't imagine that configuring is useful. I can bring it to next week's meeting.

Going to FSOSS 2016... route question

I'm thinking about taking public transit to FSOSS2016. I can get to Go Union Station easy. From there, Trip planner says - Union -> University Subway line -> Downsview -> York U - Union -> Yonge Subway line -> Finch -> York U For those living (and taking TTC) in Toronto, which route is least crowded during morning/afternoon rush hours? -- William

curious... Linux vs BSD ?

Just curious about state of Linux vs BSD... I use Linux, but examining my use case carefully, I don't really "use" Linux. I use applications and tools found in Linux distro. These applications and tools can also be found in BSD distro. To those who knows/uses both BSD and Linux... Should I learn BSD, and which one? -- William

GTALUG Board Elections

GTALUG's Annual General Meeting is coming up on 11 October 2016 which means we will be hainvg an election for board members. To vote you will need to be a member of the GTALUG Organisation which costs $20 for the year (this helps cover the cost of running the server for the mailing list and website). This year there are three openings on the board. If you are interested in helping GTALUG become even more awesome then you should definitly run. Just show up to the Annual Genreal Meeting (on 11 October 2016 at 7:30 p.m.), nominate yourself, and ask for someone to second your nomination. The requirments for being a board memeber are: * You have to be at least eighteen years old. * You have to be a member of GTALUG (or become one within ten days of getting elected). * The abliity to somewhat regularly attend GTALUG board meetings (this year were held on the forth Monday of the month at HackLab.TO (1266 Queen St. West)).
