I just bought an MSI Cubi (a cute little PC). I'm having some problems so I want to flash new firmware. Without a windows license. So that means FreeDOS for flashing. I could not get FreeDOS to boot. Only UEFI options were offered. So I asked on MSI's forum, and got a useful answer! Even though the forum looks a little like a ghost town, at least for the Cubi. <https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=289811.0> The option to choose between "Legacy mode" and UEFI mode is called "Windows 8/8.1 feature"; disabled means Legacy mode. (I haven't yet tested this.)

Linux In The Park logistics

When we looked at the BBQ, it seemed like we might need to see about having a fresh tank. I could pick one up at Costco tomorrow morning if need be, but if someone else already has one, that would be best. Scott? Bill? Hopefully one of you knows more of what needs to be up... -- When confronted by a difficult problem, solve it by reducing it to the question, "How would the Lone Ranger handle this?"

router upgrade

Greetings I've been running an Asus rt-n16 router, using dd-wrt, for about 6.5 years now. On the second one for about 1.5 years and no longer have a spare for the next time the router craters. Am finding it very difficult to determine an update/upgrade for my router. Any suggestions? (Trying to keep the costs down too, please.) Regards Dee

Hi. Anyone want to do their bit for the environment by helping me get set up? I am not wanting to be an OS computer whiz. I have a full plate already doing environmental protection'defense work-activism, and being a grandmother etc.. ...I am currently shopping for a new not-fancy computer and need some recommendations on which would be best for installing Linux-Ubuntu in a dual boot, and I also need an affordable technician to help me do that when I get the computer. Usually I am in eastern NB but am in the GTA for the summer. I have technical support down there, but not up here. My kids are buying me a new computer and I need some guidance. I use the Linux - Ubuntu side mostly for my work because it deals with a lot of security issues. Thanks for considering this request. Problems viewing embedded gifs on Chromium on A fedora26 computer

Hello all A week ago I updated form Fedora 25 to Fedora 26. On 25, I had no problems viewing embedded gifs but on 26 I keep running into the "media cannot be displayed message". The 26 update updated to the 26 repositories and I have had two updates to the gstreamer plugins (good and ugly), still having this problem. Any ideas folks as I spent the week googling this issue and all the posts are outdated? Hi Andre -- you know far more than I do. Yes, most likely just Linux - Ubuntu would be fine, I have a double boot on this old faithful laptop I am writing on right now, but I feel you are correct I do not need a double boot on the new laptop I intend to buy because Linux has become much more mainstreamable. I do not game on my computer ever so my specs are not high that way. I do travel, hence laptop only. I also am older so I like to have a big screen. I am looking with some interest at this computer: Lenovo Ideapad 320 which Costco sells. My old faithful is a Lenovo and I like it. I am concerned with security, more from stuff being sent to me, but also interference in my computer that could undermine my work.
