I think that we have one scheduled (it is the second Tuesday of the month). It should start with the Annual General Meeting. Dues are due and elections are held. Apache fails after upgrade

I recently upgraded my webserver, and now Apache isn't starting. I have made no changes to the configuration - the only other this that I did was to install php-curl. My error is this: [:crit] [pid 1574] (38)Function not implemented: AH00141: Could not initialize random number generator There are a few things that I have seen online, but none have lead to a resolution. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi. Just joined the group. I can't get scanner (on my hp LaserJet Pro MFP M26nw) working. It was scanning fine on my ubuntu 14.0-something LTS machine. However, I got a more powerful computer and had a fresh install of ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS done. I typed sane in a terminal and got.. Command 'sane' not found, did you mean: command 'save' from deb atfs (1.4pl6-14) command 'xsane' from deb xsane (0.999-8ubuntu2) command 'sage' from deb sagemath-common (9.0-1ubuntu4) command 'saned' from deb sane-utils (1.0.29-0ubuntu5.2) Try: sudo apt install <deb name> I tried sudo apt-get install sane and got ... [sudo] password for owner: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done sane is already the newest version (1.0.14-15). The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: hplip-data libimagequant0 printer-driver-postscript-hp python3-olefile python3-pil python3-renderpm python3-reportlab python3-reportlab-accel Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 16 not upgraded. So, I tried xsane and got ... Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" Then an hp wizard offered to install it, then ... Failed to open device 'hpaio:/usb_HP_LaserJet_Pro_MFP_M26nw?serial=CNB6J9P50R': Error during devioce I/O. Printing is working fine. Ideas? Chris

tl:dr Top posting this bit to say thanks. It appears I may have toasted a helper app in the firmware of the NVMe external type-c enclosure. I am much closer to normal operation now and the mb type-c seems to be fully operational. The port itself was not sacrificed to protect other components, which would be the intended activity in prolonged overcurrent activity at the point of connection. On Wed, Sep 23, 2020 at 3:52 PM D. I figured with all the IoT stuff which needs charging, I'd try to contain that to a single access point for overnight charging, with the added benefit of being able to charge an emergency phone when the mains power is off, assuming I am present to shutdown correctly. I have successfully tested two disks, using the mb type-c which reported overcurrent conditions. Two more disks are non operational. This first disk is from an old windows computer which I salvaged and put larger disks in. The second run is an obsoleted linux install. Both boots were with the disk plugged into the mb type-c and the system booted normally without reporting an overcurrent condition. I then removed and replugged them to track the udevadm monitor --env to look for overcurrent reports. inexpensive X86 Single Board Computer

Seeed sent me an ad/newsletter describing a potentially interesting SBC. <https://www.seeedstudio.com/Rock-Pi-X-Model-B-4GB-p-4277.html> (Seeed is a Chinese company that's a bit like Adafruit. If you like SBCs and playing with circuit's, Seeed's newsletter is worth subscribing to. It's not just advertising.) Summary: quite a bit of machine for the price. But fairly niche. You will likely want to add a case , a power supply, and a battery for the clock. Software support is really easy since it is X86-64. Details: Rock Pi X B4E32 pre-order: US$75 + shipping - Atom X5-Z8350 (old Atom; 64-bit) - 4GiB RAM (64-bit dual channel) - 32G eMMC. Should be faster than SD. Large enough for a full Linux distro. - microSD socket - HDMI 2.0 up to 4k@30Hz (I would have expected HDMI 1.x; this doesn't seem to match Intel's spec for the chip) - WiFi 802.11ac - BlueTooth 4.2 - gigabit ethernet - one USB 3.0 (OTG: can be host or device, if I understand correctly) - three USB 2.0 - a 40-pin expansion header for hanging your circuits off My Impression: - quite a lot for the same price as a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GiB of RAM - processor is old: introduced in early 2016 but little different from z8500 introduced in early 2015. Free to a good home: Zeo Bedside alarm clock

I’ve given a lightning talk before about the Zeo[1], an alarm clock that gained a bit of a following, which used a headband with a cloth sensor that it used to estimate your sleep cycle. I haven’t used mine in ages, it needs some work to return to its former glory (i.e. the monitor pod battery is dead), and it was just taking up space. So, I’ve decided to offer it up for someone else to play with. Had this been in the past, this interesting clock would have likely visited a Hacklab Junk Independence Day. My Zeo has the firmware necessary to use the Zeo Raw Data Library, a Python 2 library, on it, and I have the USB cable I built to connect to it (as well as the SD reader the clock came with). I found some copies of the Zeo Raw Data Library still floating around[2]. I also have a sealed headband. However, you would need to open up the pod that attaches to the headband to replace the battery. People have done this before. They have also made their own replacement sensor headbands[3], which need replacing more frequently than the pod battery. USB power reporting Type-c super speed skirmish and libpartd error

I had a power outage a couple of weeks ago which lasted longer than my UPS battery life and have had a number of USB issues since then. While I was separately recharging the UPS, which took about 5 hours, I rebooted the system which then immediately froze on boot with an USB over current condition. This appeared to be related to the MB front panel connection and at first I thought that somehow a surge made it through the UPS and had toasted the motherboards own front port connection. This turns out not to have been the case. It’s what happened next that puzzles me tho. I have an external NVME enclosure with a PCI-e X4 512 G M.2 storage which I have been tinkering with. After disconnecting the front ports on the MB and, I do have a PCI-e 5 port card with 4 x A + 1 Type-C connectors, which I had configured to provide four more front ports, with two of them Type-C. NB I don’t have the supplemental power connected as I was anticipating only to use these ports to use data, for the time being. (This is part of what makes me think the voltage demand reporting might be the culprit) When the front adapter is plugged in this also isolates the Type-C port on the actual PCI-e card from being used. After I removed all connections from that card and I plugged my M.2 device into the motherboard’s one Type-C port the system turned off like a light switch, no hang, just off. After much fooling around, starting with connecting the keyboard and mouse to the onboard legacy USB 2.0 slots, I’m sort of back where I started. The two stock USB 3 front ports are connected and working. The supplemental front ports are connected to the expansion card and working, sort of, Type-A works, Type-C does not. Connecting the device, if I connect using a cord adapter to Type-A, the mounts show up in /run/media. It is configured as a boot device. At first I thought the over current was related to the fact that that particular cord adapter is 3 ft long, but I’m rethinking that although consistent power negotiating and impedance seem to be part of the problem. What did happen was that the M.2 drive had lost it’s type label and I thought I did the right thing by using gdisk to relabel the volume, but now it shows up as W95 Ext d (LBA). Also, gparted now shows a libparted error for the actual volume I am currently booting from, although gnome-disks is fine with it. Perhaps the libparted error is related to my kernel version and non complementary libparted updates. I have seen this as an old issue of out of but I cannot so far consistently switch from connecting the device via Type A and Type C connections. Maybe this is a memory hangover concerning the voltage requested by Type-A vs Type-C My current kernel. registering one voltage demand for the Type-C connection and not releasing that info and then re-probing for the increased voltage the SS port connection allows for. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can unwind some of this? Perhaps sourcing a longer cable for connecting the expansion cards power to the slot might do the trick.
