VM Support in Linux

I am poking around in Android development, and I have run into a snag as my machine is pretty old, and doesn't have, or doesn't have enabled, some virtual machine features. Specifically: > To use VM acceleration on Linux, your computer must also meet these requirements: > > For Intel processors: Support for Virtualization Technology (VT-x), Intel EM64T (Intel 64) > features, and Execute Disable (XD) Bit functionality enabled. > For AMD processors: Support for AMD Virtualization (AMD-V). I am not at all sure that my machine will do this - if I was looking for a new machine, are there any caveats, warnings, red flags to watch for? I'd prefer not to have to spend a ton of time/money thinking about my hardware - I'd like it to run Debian with as little messing about as possible. Thanks! William

Not suspicious enough, imnsho :) The expression "bet dollars to donuts" is meant to indicate "I would bet something expensive against something inexpensive," or "I am very sure of the outcome." One slight problem: some time in the past couple years, the value of donuts exceeded that of the dollar (and I'm going by Canada's most ubiquitous and cheapest donut chain, Tim Hortons). ot: perhaps, cell phone batteries?

Hi all, Has been rather a few years since I needed to buy a cell phone battery. The phone in question is from a manufacturer that I know tellus carries, although it is not with tellus. My hope is for an inexpensive avenue, refurbished for example, as I do not use the phone in a high volume fashion. Thoughts for in town locations for the buy? I doubt I could do this on line. thanks, Kare

Do you really need AV on linux? Last time i tried to hack any linux system with hacker software such as Metasploit I found Linux extremely robust, with very few vulnerabilities and exploits, all of which I could not get to work. I don't trust MS at all, and would not trust them enough to install this AV. Am I too suspicious? Any pi users here able to advise about this setup? My concern is what applications might not work, as a deciding factor to bother. Conversation on a list focused on adaptive technology and the pi, is not yielding much information on, so thought I might ask here instead. The Raspberry Pi team reached out to an accessibility charity known as AbilityNet to help evaluate the Raspberry Pi desktop environment for improvements. Raspbian now supports Orca screen reader. Orca is compatible with most applications that use GTK or Qt toolkits. Other toolkits aren't compatible and may or may not work.
