legasy cell phone repair in Toronto?

Hi folks, having just been creatively cheated by an eBay seller, who stated a device was unlocked when it was not, I am wondering about having the three devices I have combined into one functional one. They are LG phones though, which is why the need is legacy. thoughts? Cheers, Karen

Very unlikely. Phones are built around a single circuit board and everything around it customized to the phone. You can't just take a piece of this phone and a piece of that phone to make one phone.

What about basic repair then? I read about screen repairs all the time. On Mon, 15 Jul 2024, James Knott via talk wrote:

Screen repair is quite different from what you're describing. I have replaced a battery (on an LG manufactured phone coincidentally). That sort of thing can be replaced if you can find a replacement. There are some people who offer unlocking service though. Do you know what carrier the phone was with originally?

well..that depends. This is an lg f4nr. The eBay ad from second life cellular in Maple Ontario claimed the phone was unlocked. when I got it here having PC mobile put the sim code from my currently slightly damaged bell handset of the same phone into this new one, it did not work. When the mobile shop tried another code, it acted as if it were tied to freedom mobile instead. Freedom provided a code they believe is the unlock one, only for sim codes to claim it is wind mobile, which freedom mobile bought some time back. The phone itself is functional, new one I mean. The problem is actually unlocking the phone itself. Karen On Mon, 15 Jul 2024, James Knott wrote:

Here's a link to places that unlock phones: https://www.google.com/search?q=toronto%20cell%20phone%20unlocking&ie=UTF-8 However, my understanding is that Freedom/Wind is supposed to unlock their phones. Have you gone to one of their stores? Also, you mentioned it's the same model as yours. In that case it may be possible to move the circuit board over, though that would be a big job. Just changing a battery was a fair bit of work and I'm someone with decades of experience as a technician. On 7/15/24 15:00, Karen Lewellen wrote:

Yes, in fact this is why I am going to get my money back from said eBay seller. As I thought I shared, freedom mobile provided what they believe was the unlock code, only for the phone to indicate wind mobile when a sim code is added now. The corporate store staff at 10 dundase street east is frankly stumped by the problem. On Mon, 15 Jul 2024, James Knott wrote:

I have Freedom Mobile as my carrier and am quite happy with it. However, I don't expect staff at their stores to know much more than what phones and plans are on sale on any given day, and the process to create or upgrade accounts. Hi Evan, That was where we started in fact. Because manipulating the information into the phone requires vision, I first took the phone to my Mobile shop, which is how I was told about the unlock issue. Reaching a supervisor at the freedom mobile support line led to me getting them to help, provide the unlock code, again back at my mobile shop. It was another freedom mobile support supervisor who suggested I visit a quality corporate freedom mobile store for their in-person sighted help. Indeed my first suggestion in the mobile shop was to call freedom mobile, but apparently they did not know how, leading to several trips for me. Its very strange that the phone says wind mobile for its network as well as an aspect of rogers for some reason. On Tue, 16 Jul 2024, Evan Leibovitch wrote:

FYI if not aware of it there is an active forum at https://old.reddit.com/r/dumbphones if you are interested in feature phones. And if still looking for a repair shop, try dufferin mall, there are several indy phone businesses in addition to basically every carrier in the GTA https://dufferinmall.ca/stores it's like a mobile phone convention 365 days a year.
