power adapter: best place for a replacement?
Sorry to be a bug..but everyone is so resourceful. last move in June went rather uniquely. Including it seems the power adapters for my two cordless vacuums being removed from the box. I could spend another few light years hunting them, or I can take the cordless part with me, they recharge, and find a new one. I seriously need to vacuum the carpet here so..leaning towards the latter. I must do this in person, and do not want to spend a great deal. so..where? hidden adapter surplus? best vv for adapters? Would like to find it in the next couple of days if possible. Thanks for suggestions, Karen
Hi Scott, They are both bissells one model is a 2482c, the other which is older might be 870596. both kind of guesses based on old emails, although I am certain the first number is the correct. Kare On Tue, 30 Sep 2025, Scott Allen wrote:

The adapter for the Bissell 2482C is part number 1616326. It has a two pin connector in a style I've never seen before. I assume it's proprietary to Bissell. It's often described as a 10.8 volt adapter but only because it's for charging the 10.8 volt battery in the vacuum. I found one reference to the adapter output being 13.5 volts. I don't know what the output current requirements are. Having a proprietary connector and an uncommon output voltage, you won't find this adapter at Sayal and unlikely any other physical store, unless they specialise in Bissell replacement parts. Bissell Canada themselves sell it online but it's quite expensive; $26 plus $17 shipping plus taxes for $48.58 total. https://www.bissell.com/en-ca/product/charger-for-select-stick-vacuums-16163... There are various third party replacements available online. There's one on Amazon Canada for $22 plus whatever shipping and taxes is. https://www.amazon.ca/Charger-Bissell-Cordless-Replacement-Certified/dp/B0CG...
the other which is older might be 870596.
Sorry, I can't find any reference to anything from Bissell with part number 870596. -- Scott
Hi Scott, If you search the second number, you may find a red flag deals thread for the vacuum, it was a Walmart Canada deal..last Time I needed to hunt, 2023, the thread still existed. On average i pay $25 an hour for support with things like placing an amazon orders, the site is a closed door now, and Amazon's disability customer service team can only put items in carts. They cannot facilitate account issues. Yes, both vacuums are rechargeable. Based on what you say here though, I will just take both of the cordless sections with me to techsource tomorrow. I am going to the gerrard street east location, its closer to where I otherwise need to be professionally. Bissell's site was not accessible in 2023, its how I ended up with the second vacuum in the first place. Still, I must manage with the option that bring me a swift solution here. Thanks, Karen On Tue, 30 Sep 2025, Scott Allen wrote:

No luck finding that number searching on RedFlagDeals.com or anything from Walmart by searching for Bissell. Nothing from Bissell comes up doing a general web search for that number, either.

I'd say your chances of finding the adapter at Tech Source are about as likely as finding one at Value Village; possible but highly unlikely. If your going to be in the area and it's not out of your way, you could give it a try but don't get your hopes up. You may wish to give them a phone call first. Scott, That number is the Walmart one for when I bought the vacuum some years back. And I spoke with tech source, its why I set paratransit to visit. I would rather try and fail, then not manage anything at all. and in case anyone wondered, the waiting list for a CNIB vision mate, their reader program is measured in months sometimes years. Volunteering has dropped allot across Canada. Best, Kare On Tue, 30 Sep 2025, Scott Allen wrote:

I still can't find anything saying that 870596 has anything to do with Bissell. However, even though they don't contain that number, some of the hits I get using it seem to suggest that the vacuum is one of the Lift-off 2-in-1 models, which are a combination stick style and removable hand vacuum. If this is the case, at least some of them use adapter number 1600689, which looks like it has a barrel connector, though I don't know if it's a standard size. Most sites selling replacements don't give the output specifications. One seller on Amazon said it's 16 volts, 130mA but I wouldn't trust just this one source, especially since that same site says it's 12 volts in another place and says the power output is 65 watts, which doesn't add up. -- Scott
Hi Scott, I got this vacuum in early 2017. https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/bissell-lift-off-2-in-1-cordless-stick-vacuum/8 70596 I feel very sure that link no longer works, but the number referenced is a Walmart item number. In any case, indeed it uses a barrel connector, in fact that is one reason why I kept it in the box with the vacuum itself. I have a number of adapters that fit. My hope is that the standard size, along with the model number actually being on the unit will help techsource match it correctly. When I phoned, I told the person who answered that I needed to match an adapter for a Bissell unit, and they seemed to feel that it would not be hard. Thanks for providing so much wisdom here. That was a walmart stock number. Using archive.org I see it was a Bissell 53Y8Y. Power adapter is Bissell 1600689. It appears to be 16V using a round connector. -- Len Sorensen
Will keep this Len, so I actually have the model number. Turns out I had located both of the needful adapters. the Techsource staff were truly terrific. Even starting the charging process while I waited for Wheel trans. I actually bought something else, more digital audio cable, as I wished them compensated somehow. Here is to happy carpet. Scott! You are a genius! In this case by continuing to share little details like plug description and so forth. I managed to locate the more complex one, with the proprietary plug arrangement. As I might also have found the correct second plug, I am still taking the unit and said plug to tech source. Your wisdom about the importance of exact power matching means I want a visual confirmation before I try to charge that bissell vac..I like it better than the newer model. Thanks for all you provided here. Helped me think outside the box..and think of the correct box too. With appreciation, Karen

I agree. However, just looking online or walking in there with the device you need the adapter for may be a waste of time. You may be able to find an adapter with the proper connector but unless the device is marked with the following information you couldn't be sure it would work and could cause damage to the device and/or adapter: - Voltage - DC or AC - Regulated or unregulated - Maximum current draw - Connector polarity (e.g. tip positive or negative for barrel or TRx) This is why I asked for the make and model. You may be able to research and find the exact above specs for the adapter beforehand. -- Scott
I am guessing you are suggesting I visit them. Speaking personally, their staff tend to be uncomfortable from a blindness standpoint when I go there. Hoping for an alternative if possible. On Tue, 30 Sep 2025, William Park via Talk wrote:

I have found that TechSource on Kennedy has been a good choice for devices orphaned from their power adapters. Taking along the device itself is not just a good idea, but a requirement. cheers, Do-Ming On Tue, Sep 30, 2025 at 12:23 AM Karen Lewellen via Talk < talk@lists.gtalug.org> wrote:

If it were me... *Plan A* is searching online for an exact replacement based on the make and model of the vacuums. If you don't want to buy online, a search might at least indicate what local stores stock it. *Plan B* is finding something compatible for this model at an online retailer, maybe an Amazon associate vendor or Aliexpress. If you "must do this in person", such an option does not apply though it is usually where I end up. For specialized parts such as direct-replacement power supplies.brick-and-mortar stores will never have the selection that online ones will. Maybe Sayal will come through for you ... but maybe not. *Plan C* is lazy but has worked for me as a fallback. There are quite a few "universal" power adapters available that have switchable voltages and come with an assortment of connectors so they can fit almost any laptop or appliance. Assuming one of the connectors fits your vacuum and the voltage can be switched to match, the one remaining variable is whether the amperage is enough. You may not need to go to Sayal for this; here is an example <https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/rca-ac-to-dc-universal-power-adaptor-white-2500-ma-0452882p.html> of a low-amperage adapter at Canadian Tire for $40 and a <https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/108W-Universal-Power-Supply-9V-12V-14V-15V-16V-18V-19V-20V-24V-30V-36V-Adjustable-Variable-AC-DC-Adapter-with-Voltage-Displays-100V-240V-AC-to-DC-9V/7G0WXVKFWS2U>higher-amperage one at Walmart <https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/108W-Universal-Power-Supply-9V-12V-14V-15V-16V-18V-19V-20V-24V-30V-36V-Adjustable-Variable-AC-DC-Adapter-with-Voltage-Displays-100V-240V-AC-to-DC-9V/7G0WXVKFWS2U> for $44. The ones available online at Amazon are considerably less expensive. - Evan On Tue, Sep 30, 2025 at 12:23 AM Karen Lewellen via Talk < talk@lists.gtalug.org> wrote:
