Yes, via Nextcloud at https://hub.gtalug.org. Join us, I'd like to hear your opinion on Nextcloud vs Jitsi vs Zoom. Exact URL will be posted in the meeting notice email. Note to self: can I change the room token to "talk" so it's not a random string? On July 23, 2025 7:07:18 p.m. PDT, Steve Litt via Talk <talk@lists.gtalug.org> wrote:

For the record - no. The DB for our Nextcloud is inside a Docker container and I don't have access. It really should be something that can be renamed! This is the URL for our monthly meetings (good luck remembering this!): https://hub.gtalug.org/call/7m45sf9i Even the general Talk page is ambiguous, as Talk app is called "Spreed" under the hood: https://hub.gtalug.org/apps/spreed/ I have done this on other Nextcloud instances, and it involves an UPDATE in the DB CLI but it worked most of the time just like one would expect.

I like the way Jitsi Meet handles meeting names. If you go to the main URL (e.g. https://meet.jit.si) you can choose whatever you want for the meeting name (e.g. GTALUGtalk) or just accept one that has been randomly generated. Anyone wanting to attend that meeting enters that same name on the main page. I believe it's case insensitive. The direct URL for the meeting is just the main site plus your chosen name (e.g. https://meet.jit.si/GTALUGtalk). A meeting name doesn't expire. Just stop using it and use a different one, if you desire. -- Scott

Yeah, that's better. Nextcloud Talk didn't really get as much attention prior to the pandemic and there's a strong memory of "Zoom bombing" that happened for about 5 minutes early during Covid. Hence, they want to obscure room names still. Some LUGs still don't publish their meeting URLs until the day before a meeting because they got "bombed" 5 years ago. Same with a Nextcloud "File Drop" - a URL that users can upload files to but not see other files that have been dropped there. It'd be nice to have its URL be something like "/uploads" but they, for security reasons, disagree. I oughta write an app to handle this but my PHP is rusty, I don't know Symfony, and having tried to get a merge request approved in the past kinda soured me on it.
