OT: Recommend a Canadian-owned domain registrar?

Hi all... I want to purchase/transfer domains using a Canadian-owned registrar. I've heard good things about easydns. Has anyone on the list used them before? https://easydns.com/domains/register/ Other alternative Canadian registrar recommendations would be welcome. Thanks! -- Website: https://www.dwarmstrong.org

I use them. They are knowledgeable and are easy to reach if you have problems. -- Michael Galea

I've been using https://grape.ca for 20 years (used to be called 10dollar.ca). Haven't had any issues. Once when I almost forgot to renew, they called me on the phone the day before it expired to remind me to renew it to prevent losing it. Beware of foreign companies with a .ca suffice (i.e. DROC.ca - my first registrar, a subsidiary of a US company). I've been using https://websavers.ca, based in Halifax. They're fine for VPS hosting, the DNS interface is a bit clunky if you were to manage it yourself. Their infrastructure is on OVH, a not-Canadian (European? Formerly French) company though. There was a bit of discussion on Canadian providers on Ottawa's list: https://lists.linux-ottawa.org/linux/2025/01/tindex.html Might find a bunch of suggestions there too.

baremetal www.baremetal.ca Have been my Canadian domain register since at least 2015. Would use them for other things if they provided it, terrific service, and as You likely can guess a perfectly accessible interface. Hope they fit your fancy. The easydns guys have been good to work with. I like that I can upload a bind file and not have to use a GUI to manage my DNS. There is also an API but I have never run that up. -- Alvin Starr || land: (647)478-6285 Netvel Inc. || home: (905)513-7688 alvin@netvel.net ||

I've been with EasyDNS for a long time - maybe 20 years? They are solid, very high-clue. I have never had a DNS problem that I didn't cause :-P My recollection is that they are not the cheapest, but I am willing to reward them for being steady. I never have to think about DNS - that's worth something. On Fri, 28 Mar 2025 at 18:34, Daniel Wayne Armstrong via talk < talk@gtalug.org> wrote:

As you can see by other replies, there are plenty of choices. I'm very happy with rebel.ca formerly known as DomainsAtCost, based in Ottawa. And of course there's one of the OG registrars, operating worldwide from their HQ in Liberty Village, Tucows. I assume, since buying Canadian is important, you're getting a .ca domain? If not, regardless of your registrar most of your spend (and all of your registrant data) will be going south to Verisign or some other likely-US registry. - Evan On Fri, Mar 28, 2025 at 6:35 PM Daniel Wayne Armstrong via talk < talk@gtalug.org> wrote:
