This is the first time in the history of computing that a major architecture has launched with Linux as the premier operating system. This talk will discuss the hard challenges presented by the Aarch64 architecture and the opportunities it creates. ## Location George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre 245 Church Street, Room 203 Ryerson University <http://goo.gl/maps/16oJ2> <http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/23447525> ## Schedule * 6:00 pm - Please discuss on the general mailing list (i.e. <talk@gtalug.org>) where you want to go for dinner. * 7:30 pm - Meeting and presentation. * 9:00 pm - After each meeting a group of GTALUGers move to the The Imperial Pub (54 Dundas St East) for refreshments and more socializing. # Code of Conduct We want a productive happy community that can welcome new ideas, improve every process every year, and foster collaboration between individuals with differing needs, interests and skills. We gain strength from diversity, and actively seek participation from those who enhance it. This code of conduct exists to ensure that diverse groups collaborate to mutual advantage and enjoyment. We will challenge prejudice that could jeopardize the participation of any person in the community. The Code of Conduct governs how we behave in public or in private whenever the Linux community will be judged by our actions. We expect it to be honored by everyone who represents the community officially or informally, claims affiliation, or participates directly. It applies to activities online or offline. We invite anybody to participate. Our community is open. Please read more about the GTALUG Code of Conduct here: <http://gtalug.org/about/code-of-conduct/>. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the GTALUG Code of Conduct please contact the GTALUG Board @ <board@gtalug.org>. --- GTALUG Announce mailing list announce@gtalug.org http://gtalug.org/mailman/listinfo/announce

Are there are membership in good standing requirements to vote or stand at the AGM? There hasn't been much talk of membership fees or structure on this list for some time. Best Wishes, Stewart

Hi Stewart, I will agree that this doesn't get covered on the list often, because honestly it hasn't really changed since GTALUG was made into a non-profit corporation back in 2003. That doesn't mean it's not talked about at all, actually, it does get covered as part of every AGM, and occasional reminders at the in-person meetings. It boils doing as follows. * You have to be a member to vote in the board election. * If you are voted to become a member of the board, and are not yet a member, you must become a member within 10 days. Please see the full details here: https://github.com/gtalug/bylaws/blob/master/GTALUG-Bylaw-Number-1/05-direct... Membership is $20 for the year. * Covers the costs of running the server for our mailing-list and website. Details about how much we bring in and where it goes is covered by the Treasury report at the AGM. -- Scott Sullivan with "GTALUG President" hat on.

Details about how much we bring in and where it goes is covered by the
Treasury report at the AGM. That sounds pretty consistent. The $20 isn't inherent to the constitution; that's something that I suppose would be considered an "administrative" matter; I do not recall when there was last a vote surrounding it. As you say, membership arrangements have really not changed since the very beginning. I'll be bringing the wee bag of membership materials (cards, stamps, forms) to upcoming meetings; that's a usual bit of the cycle of things. We used to have a reasonably clear wiki page on this; alas, it has gone missing when the MediaWiki instance went offline. (Hiding in a backup, but it's not online anywhere. Those interested in participating in electoral matters next week should be sure to come ready to fill in membership form with $20. (Well, except for those that handled this at the September meeting!) -- When confronted by a difficult problem, solve it by reducing it to the question, "How would the Lone Ranger handle this?"
