Open Source Initiative (Must Release The Results) <-- video on OSI election

Back in February 2024 (that long ago?!?), Stefano gave a talk to GTALUG:
The Future of Linux User Groups and Open Source Advocacy with Stefano Maffulli, Executive Director of the Open Source Initiative
I saw his name come up in a Brodie Robertson video today. https://youtu.be/fwfKVzsEsLU?si=di0TmlrLGegoPl5C&t=1120 Basically, the OSI had an election recently, it was a mess, and the OSAID (Open Source Artificial Intelligence Definition) was a bit of a contention. It does appear that something needs to happen at OSI (preferably a do-over of the entire election process), but I only have this video with its copious showing of messages and blog posts on the topic, so I'm not an expert. However, I thought some here might be interested, it's quite a story.

What about AS(Artificial Stupidity) Is is a greatly understudied area of research. Things like self driving cars that run high speed into barriers. Military drones that shoot at their controllers if they get orders they do not like. Human intelligence is limited but it appears that human stupidity is infinite so this is an are of research that has no bounds. -- Alvin Starr || land: (647)478-6285 Netvel Inc. || home: (905)513-7688 alvin@netvel.net ||

Agreed Alvin, it is a wide open field. I woudl actually read an article or research about AS and also which sub fields there are, limitless opportunities! Andre

There is a recent article on it, t/he reverse-centaur apocalypse is upon us/, by Cory Doctorow, at https://doctorow.medium.com/https-pluralistic-net-2024-08-02-despotism-on-de... --dave On 4/23/25 08:34, Alvin Starr via talk wrote:
