Someone has a Unihertz Jelly Pro smartphone?

Hi, Was it on this list that someone said they had a Jelly Pro phone from Unihertz? If so, would you mind answering a few questions? 1) How is the general build quality of the phone (as rugged as any other smartphone, or flimsier)? 2) 240x432 pixels is not terribly high res. How is this for browser, app and general phone use? 3) Given the small screen, how is typing on the on-screen keyboard with big fingers? If I've got the wrong list, sorry for the noise. Cheers, -- znoteer znoteer@mailbox.org

That was I, and yes, I will.

I find it's rather sturdy. But the optional case is good to have, the key-ring loop makes it easier to withdraw from my pockets.
2) 240x432 pixels is not terribly high res. How is this for browser, app and general phone use?
It's a very small device, so the pixel density is decent. Better then my old flip phone for comparison. You'd not use this for everything you'd use a traditional smartphone for. My primary uses are as a dedicated hotspot, and remote control for home automation. Call quality is decent from the tests I made. But note that I'm using this as a secondary purposed device, while keeping my OnePlus One as a primary.
3) Given the small screen, how is typing on the on-screen keyboard with big fingers?
Surprisingly good, but not error free. I've had some colleagues test with, much fatter fingers then mine, and they were also surprised at how usable it was.
If I've got the wrong list, sorry for the noise.
You got it and happy to answer. -- Scott Sullivan

Hi Scott You give a very encouraging portrait of the phone. Thumb typing is error prone on anything, I think. This would be a replacement for my primary mobile, so I'm still a bit hesitant about the screen size, though. Thanks for the info. -- znoteer znoteer@mailbox.org

I've seen Scott's Jelly Pro, and as he says it's workable for the things he's using it for. Understand that I'm saying this without using the phone at all, but ... don't even consider using this as a primary phone. Unless of course your main use case for the phone is to make phone calls - and who the hell does that on a phone? While I enjoyed writing that and there's a degree of sarcasm implied, I'm also very serious: phone calls simply aren't the main use for phones any more, and this thing is too small for most of the things we use phones for. Think of it as being similar to an old flip phone, but without the dedicated keypad: the screen is that small. If an old flip phone would suit you, this will work - but in that case a flip phone might be better? -- Giles https://www.gilesorr.com/ gilesorr@gmail.com
