Newegg.ca sales -- Linksys WRT1900AC, Samsung 128GB USB sticks

Something I noticed while shopping on Newegg.ca: 1. Linksys WRT1900AC -- $155.99 reburbished. I don't know what that means. Samsung 128GB USB sticks. - BAR -- $45, it's regular stick - FIT -- $45, short like wireless receiver - DUO -- $50, has both USB-A and micro-USB https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147469 https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147470 https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147471 -- William

I dunno why either, but I got mine refurb from Canada Computers. It was just in very minimal packaging. Good router, too. Stewart

"Refurb" can also mean "we packed and palletized it, but then there was an update". The three choices are * unpack, update and repackage * unpack, update and sell as refurb * sell cheap, as-is. I have a phone that fell into category 3, updated by Colin and I. --dave On 08/04/17 11:06 PM, Alvin Starr via talk wrote:

I believe RMA calls that NOS. New Old Stock. Thats a different catagory than refurbished which is a unit which has been repristinated and re-vended by UL or other SAP rated manufacturers of electronic devices.

<snip> Any reason that the retailer uses to accept a return is designated as Returned Merchandise Authorized by a manufacturer. Since they don't want their traditional retail supply chain to sell their "used" equipment, the retailer sends it back to the manufacturer through the distributors RMA process. It's a part of corporate Quality Assurance process. If the unit was damaged or faulty it is refurbished or recycled. It is never retailed as a used product but as a refurbished product. Back in the day, 97 or so, any linux user had a bonanza on refurbished Fujitsu drives. Something in MS Windows didn't allocate partitions correctly and reported the drives total capacity as much smaller than advertising said it was. They were being RMA by the truckload. However use an ext filesystem and bingo, full capacity at a third the price. In fact refurbished often means more trustworthy than new, because of all the extra testing. The future waranty and this includes the implied warrany of serviceability all new and RMA products are vended under, all depends on the RMA chain of documentation. -- Russell Sent by K-9 Mail

Too bad they don't say what version it is. The v2 has twice the ram and doesn't have a fan (the newer CPU runs quite a bit cooler than the original one). The 1.2GHz spec makes me think v1 though. v2 would be 1.6GHz (although often listed as 1.3)

They are in far-flung locations so you have to go to your local CC and ask for a transfer. They will ask for a 10% deposit. I did that for a couple of things today. <http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=1047&item_id=098926>
