Sigh. Fingers not attached to brain. Must be the mental exhaustion of spending multiple hours downloading ISOs, burning USB sticks and fighting with "you can't get there from here" installs. I finished at 5am this morning.

My second install was Debian 'testing', not Fedora. I'm still trying to stick with .deb-based systems, but had Kubuntu failed I would have strayed...

Thanks again to all who helped. I've passed on Tom's finding to the MX devs, whose only answer to me in the forum was that my install media must be corrupt. 😝
