Your helpful link is very timely.
While clearing out stuff, I found two (2) long forgotten 1 TB external USB hard drives.
So instead of buying a SATA hard drive to add to my Debian linux PC, to achieve live boot root filesystem persistence, I'm going to try following the instructions on the debian.org web page you pointed me to, and deploy one (1) of the 1 TB USB hard drives for Debian 12 live boot.
