(*) True story. At the height of the craze my granddaughter was massively annoying her family for one. I saw one at Ali really cheap; I was pretty sure it was a fake but what the heck. Turns out it was legit. Meanwhile, another relative thought he'd score some quick cash by buying and flipping a bunch, but the shipment he thought was legit was all fake.
They might still be fakes. The quality of the fakes varies quite a bit (we picked up a number of them a few months ago at various street shops in Shanghai for not much at all. I think the cheapest was about $2.) Some have tags that look like the real ones, but other things are slightly off. We did get a few real ones from the official store too.). They are all cute though and and as long as you are happy with buying the "fake" ones they are perfectly adorable toys. I think the real ones were about $20 each or so. -- Len Sorensen
