Much | less to go wrong. Thanks Stewart! I don't like putting printers on my network. Sure, it is convenient. But I don't control their network security. They don't have a firewall that I can examine and configure. They are rather promiscuous. IPv6 could make this worse since it eliminates the security crutch of NAT. Any good firewall should catch this. When it comes to a choice between convenience and security, you can guess what wins. One of our printers is on our LAN.
