Two items I need to buy...
1) I have more devices than ports on my 4-port ST546 ADSL modem/router. I have a multi-port bridge sitting right next to it. A 6-foot ethernet cable connecting the 2 is a waste, and contributes to "crow's-nest". A 12 or 18 inch ethernet cable would do just fine.
2) Ditto for a short USB-to-microUSB adapter. A 6-footer is OK for my desktop. But when I'm travelling, and offloading smartphone photos to my laptop, a 6-foot cable is clumsy.
Short cables are available. You can try the usual suspects, (Sayal, Canada Computers etc.) or search on line. Or, as Scott mentioned, making Ethernet cables is fairly easy, once you get the hang of it. If possible, use stranded cable for patch cords.
