I stick weld (SMAW arc weld), heating the metal up to 6k C. This will obliterate all the plastic nearby. You will need to disassemble the screwdriver to have any hope of repairing it. There must be another way to put your locking bit holder on to your cordless screwdriver. Do more research. Also is the metal you want to weld ferrous, like can you stick a magnet to it? My recommendation is to buy a new cordless screwdriver, unless you wish to spend more time figuring out how to disassemble it. The battery is also close by, which would also be a concern. It is winter and f-ing cold outside, so I'm not welding. I'll be batching up jobs when spring comes. On Sun, 12 Jan 2025 at 17:44, William Park via talk <talk@gtalug.org> wrote:
No. The "joint" is about 0.5-in from the base of screwdriver, and about 1-in from the sleeve of locking bit holder. It's too close for propane torch, if that's what you have in mind. :-)

Does the locking bit holder touch any type of plastic, like housing or other parts?

Hi, I want to weld "locking bit holder" to a cordless screwdriver which just has regular non-locking magnetic bit chuck. The weld doesn't need to be solid around. Just 3 spots will do. I tried all kinds of "glues", but they don't last.
Does anyone have (arc) welder, and willing to accept a dozen donuts as payment?
