Steve, I bought my present desktop in 2009. Most of the weird behaviour I see is due to power supplies. My desktop seems to eat them. My desktop is now on its third motherboard and its third computer case. I cannot remember how many power supplies, video cards and hard drives I have replaced. I use BluRay burners has a back-up, so my system consumes those too. My current primary drive is solid state, mounted to an M.2 slot. Compared to thirty years ago, desktops have become way easier to work on. There generally is way more room, and the motherboards are clearly labelled. Replace the offending components. You really ought to re-install GNU/Linux, but my systems always boot and run with the new motherboards. -- Howard Gibson hgibson@eol.ca http://home.eol.ca/~hgibson
