Connection speed to where though? You would have to do something that talks to a system somewhere else and measures the current speed between those two places. Hopefully you can pick something where your connection locally is the slowest link and hence the one measured.

But it would greatly help to hear what others in this group recommend. I'm running Linux Mint.
