Is the goal here to just have dynamic DNS or also a "free" subdomain? If you already own your domain, or are willing to buy one, most registrars will have some sort of API call to update the DNS records. If the goal is to have a "free" subdomain as well as dynamic DNS, I am not aware of anything in Canada that does that. Off the top of my head, afraid.org provides a free subdomain with dynamic DNS, and eu.org provides a free domain in the x.x.eu.org, you will have to find your own DNS hosting, dns.he.net comes to mind. Hope that helps -nick On Tue, Jul 1, 2025 at 8:24 PM Gron Arthur via Talk <talk@lists.gtalug.org> wrote:
I want to run a server from home, is more of the goal.

I'm going to try self hosting again, last time I used noip.com <http:// noip.com>, but since it's Canada Day, is there a Canadian alternative?
I use https://websavers.ca/, they're a Canadian company (Halifax?) hosted in Quebec on OVH servers.
Can get 1 vCore (CPU), 2GB RAM, 1 IPv4, 1+ IPv6, 10GB disk, 5TB traffic for CAD $5 / month.
Easy enough to add more, although I don't think they support per-minute scaling like some providers (not sure though).
Happy enough with them.
Transferred my domains there too, although I find their basic DNS management software a bit less than optimal. Should probably just do my own DNS.
