This file's name was given by a formal process. The file is one of hundreds that must survive decades. One doesn't willy-nilly rename things without inviting chaos.
If you have access to this formal process is it not possible to substitute the : which is causing all the unexpected behaviour with another character ?
A tool should behave in the expected way. In this case, I have had to modify my expectation (and respect for) evince.
But is this not the exact reason why we continue to advocate for and use open source ? If this was a Windows executable with closed source there is very little one can do. But in this case if evince ( or any other tool..) does not behave as expected or does not do what we want it to ? Or does not have the functionality we require then what is preventing us from downloading the evince source code and making the necessary changes we want ?
