One might become suspicous of your hardware at this point. NetBSD was kinda jerky on my Duron due to some incompatibility between it and my HD controller. I think that it's NetBSD's fault, but what was really relevant is that it was downgrading to some PIO mode for HD access. That's a great way to make the computer very slow, and the mouse jerky.
